The Suh-Weetest Mermaids...(A GALLERY)

You know, one of the great ways to use Canva is that you get to use your creativity to use whatever element you like in terms of creating something through Canva for my blog; the other day, I decided to use Canva to create my own artwork involving mermaids, and the results are surprising at best, as shown now in the following images...

And Now, a Word From Miss MerMay...

Oh, hi...I thought that I would like to introduce myself to you...My name is Miss MerMay, and my name just happens to come from that very month in which we are honoring; it is MerMay, a celebration of all of the wonders of the ocean and its mysteries. But how did MerMay come to be, you ask? Well, let me explain...
The origins of MerMay can be traced back to 2017 when an artist by the name of Tom Bancroft, known for his work with Disney on films like The Lion King and Mulan, had somehow initiated the concept. Bancroft envisioned MerMay as a creative challenge for artists worldwide, inviting them to draw a mermaid every day throughout the month of May(Wow, how awesome!). What started as a personal challenge soon blossomed into a global phenomenon, captivating artists across various platforms and inspiring a wave of stunning mermaid-themed artwork.
The allure of MerMay lies in its fusion of fantasy and artistry. Mermaids, mythical creatures with the upper body of a human and the lower body of a fish, have captivated human imagination for centuries. From ancient folklore to modern literature and cinema, mermaids have symbolized beauty, mystery, and the untamed depths of the ocean. By dedicating a month to celebrating these enchanting beings, MerMay invites artists and enthusiasts to explore the depths of their creativity and share their unique interpretations of mermaid lore.

Each year, MerMay gains momentum, with artists showcasing their talents through a diverse range of mediums. Digital artists bring mermaids to life with vibrant colors (and boy, do I love colors!) and intricate details, while traditional artists capture the essence of these aquatic beings with pencils, paints, and mixed media. The MerMay challenge encourages artists to experiment, pushing boundaries and exploring new techniques to bring their mermaid visions to fruition.
Beyond its artistic appeal, MerMay fosters a sense of community among creators and fans. Social media platforms like Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok buzz with MerMay creations throughout May, creating a virtual gallery where artists can connect, inspire, and support each other's work. The hashtag #MerMay has become a gateway to a treasure trove of mermaid art, showcasing the diverse styles and interpretations of artists from around the world.
But MerMay just isn't really about art; it's also a celebration of our deep-seated fascination with the ocean and its mysteries. As climate change and environmental concerns highlight the fragility of marine ecosystems, MerMay serves as a reminder of the importance of ocean conservation. Through their art, many MerMay participants advocate for marine conservation efforts, using mermaids as symbolic ambassadors for ocean awareness and protection. (In other words, let's protect our oceans!)

In addition to the online festivities, MerMay has inspired art challenges, workshops, and events hosted by galleries, art communities, and educational institutions. These gatherings not only showcase mermaid art but also provide opportunities for artists to network, learn from each other, and gain exposure for their work.
As MerMay continues to evolve and grow, it remains a testament to the enduring allure of mermaids and the power of art to ignite imaginations, foster connections, and spark conversations. Whether you're an established artist, an aspiring creator, or simply a mermaid enthusiast, MerMay invites you to dive into a world of creativity, wonder, and underwater magic every May.
Well, that is my story of what MerMay is and how it came to be; I hope that all of you learn more about this as anyone else. Happy MerMay!

Three On An Island BY JENN WEBSTER

Since the launch of my blog, this certain plot from any story has appeared some times if not a lot; so for this post, this shall be the final time you would ever hear a plot like this again...

Once upon a time, there were three Navy sailors, and they had some wonderful times sailing on a Navy-built yacht. After the fun was over, it was time for them to sail back home to the docks of the naval base. However, a storm had churned just as they began their journey home; after two hours, the three navy sailors somehow became stranded on an island.
On the island, the three navy sailors were trying to find a way off the island (as well as trying to get something to eat), one of the three sailors found a magic lamp; the other two sailors rushed up to him and took one look at this lamp-They have never seen anything like it before, and probably never would again!
The first navy sailor rubbed the magic lamp, and then, a genie appeared! The three sailors were very surprised! The genie then announced, "I am the genie of the lamp...I shall grant one wish, and one wish only! So, my good man, since you have released me from the lamp, I shall grant your first wish!" The first navy sailor then thought about the first wish that the genie was going to grant; but then he thought about how his family and friends were missing him in New York City. So with that, the first navy sailor said to the genie, "I wish that I was back in New York City with my family!"

And so, the genie waved his hands, and the first navy sailor was transported to New York City to be with his family. Then, the genie asked the second navy sailor what his second wish would be; the second navy sailor replied, "Oh, I wish that I was back in Chicago to be with my own family!" The genie then waved his arms, and in an instant, the second navy sailor was back in Chicago with his family.
Finally, the genie asked the third navy sailor what his wish would be. At first, the third navy sailor began to think for a while about his wish. He pondered and pondered, but then the genie began to lose his patience. Finally, the third navy sailor replied what his wish would FINALLY be. And with that, the genie waved his hand for the third and final time and disappeared.
The first and second navy sailors were right back where they were: on that very same island with the third navy sailor, and then they chased him all around the island...

MORAL  OF THE STORY: Don't use your third and final wish to take away THEIR wishes already granted, bub! (🤣 )

Ride Into Summer With "Stagecoach Circus"!

Now, before I get started with my Kindle book suggestion, I would like to announce the official date for my farewell to this here blog as well as my blogging career itself; after careful planning, I have announced that my final day of blogging is Friday, June 21st. Yes, June 21st is the date in which I say goodbye to my blogging career, and I believe that it shall be a farewell to remember. I shall plan special things for this blog to honor my farewell in the weeks to come.
In the meantime, this is certainly going to be the last time I shall suggest a certain Kindle book; later on this month, it shall be a year since I published this Kindle book; like Brendella, it is certainly a fantasy that's sure to be enjoyed, I believe, not just for weeks, but for years to come. That Kindle book, that I am now going to mention, for the last time, is called Stagecoach Circus
Stagecoach Circus is a fantasy unlike any other, a fantasy that I believe readers will not ever forget. It tells the story of a brother and sister, Michael and Brenda, who tragically lose their parents and are forced to live with their farmer uncle, Albert, at his farm.

Once on their uncle's farm, Brenda and Michael learn all of the ways of the farm, including milking the cow (even though Michael even tried to feed a cow a chocolate bar in order for the cow to make CHOCOLATE milk!).
But then, something unexpected happens: The siblings wake up one morning to find that their uncle, as well as all of the farm animals, have disappeared! The next thing the brother and sister knew, they were taken to an orphanage, where they were mistreated by the orphanage's caretaker as well as all of the other children in the building.
Brenda and Michael are then forced to do chores by the caretaker, all the while wondering whatever has happened to their uncle. One night, while they are asleep, the siblings get a visit from a golden spirit, who informs them that their uncle is alive and well and is actually living in Los Angeles in California; after the golden spirit disappears, the siblings sneak out of the orphanage and then began on their adventure in their journey to Los Angeles.

However, Michael and Brenda have trouble finding their way to Los Angeles, but then they see a miracle in the form of a train of stagecoaches—in fact, a magical train of stagecoaches that are flying in the sky and are now flying down to the siblings!
Now, I cannot give anything away, so the only way to find out what happens next is by purchasing my Kindle fantasy extravaganza, Stagecoach Circus, the most wonderful fantasy read that you would ever enjoy! Stagecoach Circus is now available for purchase at the Amazon Kindle Store; if you would like to purchase Stagecoach Circus for your Kindle or for your smartphone or tablet device that has got a Kindle app, go here

Rejected Coca-Cola Slogans...

Coca-Cola is a time-honored soft drink that has been around for well over 100 years—in fact, it has been around for 138 years! Wow, for a soft drink that has been around that long, one wonders how it has stayed sweet!
And yes, there have been slogans that fit Coca-Cola's image; however, there have been slogans that somehow never made it past the development stage. But through the miracle of somehow technology, yours truly has somehow recovered those lost slogans, and are presented for your enjoyment (or disgust, whichever comes first)...

Nestled in the heart of Connecticut lies a place where history, natural beauty, and family fun converge seamlessly: Lake Compounce. As one of the oldest amusement parks in the United States, Lake Compounce boasts a rich history that spans over a century, making it a beloved destination for generations of visitors. So with that, it is time to embark on a journey through time to discover the captivating story behind this iconic amusement park. Lake Compounce's story began in 1846 when Gad Norton opened the park as a simple lakeside picnic area. Situated around the serene waters of the lake, the park quickly became a popular spot for families and travelers seeking a peaceful retreat. The scenic beauty of the lake, surrounded by lush greenery, enchanted visitors and laid the foundation for what would evolve into a renowned amusement park. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Lake Compounce underwent significant developments. The park added attractions such as a carousel, steam-powered boats for lake cruises, and picnic groves, further enhancing its appeal. It became a destination not just for locals but also for tourists from neighboring states, drawn by the park's natural charm and growing array of amusements.

The 1930s marked a turning point for Lake Compounce as it transformed into a full-fledged amusement park. The introduction of thrilling rides like roller coasters, bumper cars, and a miniature train ride added an exciting dimension to the park's offerings. This era saw Lake Compounce emerge as a premier destination for family entertainment, attracting a diverse audience of thrill-seekers and leisure seekers alike. One of the park's most iconic attractions, the Wildcat roller coaster, debuted in 1927 and quickly became a fan favorite. The latter half of the 20th century brought further growth and modernization to Lake Compounce. New rides, shows, and attractions were continually introduced, keeping the park's offerings fresh and exciting. The addition of water rides and a water park section in the 1980s added a refreshing aquatic dimension to the park, appealing to a broader audience during the hot summer months.

In 1996, Lake Compounce made history by becoming part of the Six Flags family of parks, ushering in a new era of investment and development. While its affiliation with Six Flags lasted for several years, Lake Compounce eventually returned to independent ownership in 2007, continuing its legacy as a cherished regional attraction. A MOTHER'S DAY ESSAY...

I want to stress this out that this happens to be my final Mother's Day essay for this blog, as I am about to shut the blog down in June, with a date to be announced; so with that in mind, I would very much like to give advice to the mothers whose children have decided to become writers…
First and foremost of all, if your children have decided to become the very best creative writers that they can be, then you mother's should be very proud; after all, you've raised them since they were little babies. If your children decide on becoming writers, then you mothers should let them go ahead and let your children be so.
Second, I think that it is time for you mother's to give your own children a gift since they have decided on becoming writers; perhaps maybe a second-hand typewriter or a stationary set might do. However, it might be best for you mothers to give your children a small thing as a gift, such as a necklace or a gift book; that way, it shows you mothers just how much you care about your kids.

And finally, if you mothers do give your kids all of the love that they need, then they should love you back; there is nothing quite so beautiful as the love between a mother and her children.
And so with that, a very happy and blessed Mother's Day to each and every mother everywhere.

A FORMAT SO GRAND: The Story of The Oldies

Well, in my newest Kindle Vella story series, The Incredible 5, the five disc jockeys who work at the radio station known as WOLD-FM (and who have magic powers, by the way) play a music genre that was very popular in the early-to-mid 1990s: the oldies, or as some people might call them, golden oldies.
For those of you who wanted to know what this genre is, Oldies happens to be a term for musical genres such as pop, rock-and-roll, doo-wop, surf music, and even love songs from the second half of the 20th century, mainly from around the mid-1950s to the 1980s, as well as a certain radio format playing that kind of music.
Now, the oldies category includes styles as diverse as doo-wop, novelty songs, early rock-and-roll, bubblegum music, folk rock, and so many others, as well as some country music. Golden Oldies, however, refers usually to music that is exclusively from the 1950s and 1960s. Typically, Oldies radio features artists such as Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Frankie Avalon, The Beach Boys, The Four Seasons, Sam Cooke, and Little Richard. Oldies radio played music from the folk revival as well as beautiful instrumental music.

Most traditional oldies stations limit their on-air playlists to no more than 300 songs, based on the programming strategy that the average listener and passive listeners will stay tuned provided they are familiar with the hits being played. There is one drawback to this concept, and that happens to be the constant heavy rotation and repetition of the station's program library, as well as the rejection of the format by active listeners. However, all of this can be avoided either through the use of a broader playlist or by rotating different songs from the oldies era into and out of the playlist every few weeks.
The oldies format has some kind of overlap with the two formats known as classic rock and classic hits. Classic rock focuses on album rock from the late 1960s to the 1990s, while classic hits feature pop and rock from the early 1970s to the early 1990s. As those formats have drifted in time with their target audiences, classic rock and classic hits have moved further away from pure oldies, which has largely remained a static format.
Meanwhile, how did the term "oldies" come to be, you ask? Well, the "oldies" term in the early days of the rock era and before referred to the traditional songs of previous decades; a 1953 record review in Billboard magazine describes 1925's Yes Sir, That's My Baby as an "oldie". Oldies happens to be known for the near-total and sometimes arbitrary exclusion of some acts that were very popular in their time, including acts such as The Osmonds and Barbara Streisand.

The oldies format made its very first appearance in the early 1970s; a radio station in Phoenix that goes by the name of KOOL-FM became one of the very first radio stations to play oldies music, at that time focusing on the 1950s and early 1960s.
Throughout the 1960s, very few Top 40 radio stations played anything more than a few years old. In the late 1960s, few FM stations adopted Top 40 formats that leaned towards adults who did not want to hear the same 30 songs repetitively but also did not want to hear music featured on the Middle-Of-The-Road radio stations; they mixed in oldies with their own current product and only played new music a few times an hour. Those radio stations were often referred to as the "Gold" stations.
Some AM radio stations also began to enjoy this format; there were also syndicated music format packages such as Drake-Chenault's "Solid Gold" format, frequently used on FM stations that needed separate programming from their AM sisters, due to a then-new set of rules from the FCC on simulcasting, that functioned as a hybrid of oldies and the adult-oriented softer rock hits of the day.

By the late 1970s and early 1980s, most of these "Solid Gold" radio stations either evolved into other formats or just simply dropped the format altogether; most AM gold stations flipped to other formats, while some FM stations evolved into adult contemporary stations, which includes WROR in Boston as well as WFYR in Chicago. Many AC stations in the early 1980s began mixing more oldies into regular rotation and just aired oldies shows on Saturday nights.
Starting in 1982, both AM and FM stations began to gradually change to full-time oldies formats; those stations strictly played music from 1955 to 1973, focusing on the 1964-1969 era. Among those oldies stations was WCBS-FM in New York City and WOGL-FM in Philadelphia. Some stations had as few as 300 songs while stations such as WOGL had as many as 1,500 songs in regular rotation, and by 1989, most large and medium markets had at least one FM oldies station.
However, by the year 2000, the oldies stations began noticing that their demographics were getting older, as well as harder, to sell, but at the time still, only a few stations had dumped the format altogether. A few radio stations would shift to a centric disco-oriented rhythmic oldies format.

So in 2000, the stations had begun to limit selections from the 1950s and early 1960s and began playing songs from as late as 1979 to even a few songs from the 1980s. WCBS-FM would become the station to cut back slightly on the pre-1964 oldies and then slightly increase songs from the 1970s and 80s early in 2001; they would also eliminate the overnight currents at the same time along with some specialty shows. The very next year, many oldies stations began dropping pre-1964 music from their playlists since the earlier music tended to appeal to an older demographic that advertisers found undesirable. So with that, among other changes, WCBS-FM canceled the "Doo-Wop Shop" program and would begin playing one pre-1964 oldie per hour.
So many stations have since dropped the oldies format because of low ad revenue despite high ratings; some have pointed out as a sign that the oldies format is in danger, and that happened to be the same reason that the adult standards and smooth jazz formats are disappearing.
But in the later years, somehow, the oldies format is alive and well, thanks to music streaming and satellite radio; while we would love to have a good 'ol oldies radio station again, these things are the next best things to listen to the oldies.

Echoes Through the Air: A Journey Through the History of FM Radio

In the vast landscape of human innovation, few technologies have had as profound an impact on our daily lives as radio. The ability to transmit sound over long distances, bridge gaps, and connect people across communities has been a driving force in our collective progress. Among the many iterations of radio technology, one stands out for its clarity and quality: FM radio. The story of FM radio begins in the early 20th century, a time of rapid technological advancement. In the 1930s, Edwin Armstrong, an American engineer and inventor, developed frequency modulation (FM) as an alternative to amplitude modulation (AM), the prevailing radio technology of the time. AM radio had limitations, particularly in terms of signal quality and susceptibility to interference. Armstrong's FM radio used changes in frequency to encode audio signals, resulting in a more robust and clearer transmission. This breakthrough laid the foundation for the modern FM radio we know today.

FM radio faced initial challenges in gaining widespread adoption. The technology required new infrastructure, including specialized transmitters and receivers. However, its superior sound quality and resistance to interference gradually won over broadcasters and listeners alike. One of the pivotal moments in the history of FM radio came in the post-World War II era. In the 1940s and 1950s, FM technology matured, and commercial FM stations began to emerge. These stations offered listeners a higher fidelity listening experience, attracting an audience interested in music, news, and cultural programming. The 1960s and 1970s marked the golden age of FM radio. As the popularity of stereo sound grew, FM stations became the preferred choice for music enthusiasts. DJs played a crucial role in shaping musical tastes and introducing new artists to audiences. Formats like progressive rock, jazz, and classical found a home on FM airwaves, diversifying the radio landscape.

During this period, FM radio also played a significant role in social and cultural movements. It became a platform for countercultural voices, promoting discussions on civil rights, environmentalism, and anti-war activism. The iconic "album-oriented rock" format, characterized by long tracks and thematic programming, thrived on FM stations, influencing generations of listeners. In the digital age, FM radio continues to evolve. The introduction of digital broadcasting technologies like HD Radio has enhanced sound quality and introduced new features such as multicasting (multiple channels within a single frequency). Internet radio and streaming services have expanded listeners' options, offering personalized playlists and on-demand content. Despite these innovations, FM radio faces challenges in an increasingly digital and on-demand media landscape. Competition from streaming platforms, podcasts, and satellite radio has led to shifts in listener preferences. However, FM radio remains resilient, with its local appeal, live programming, and community engagement distinguishing it from other forms of audio entertainment.

The history of FM radio is a testament to human ingenuity and the enduring power of communication. From its humble beginnings to its role as a cultural touchstone, FM radio has shaped our collective experience, providing a soundtrack to our lives and fostering connections across borders. As we navigate an ever-changing media landscape, FM radio stands as a timeless medium, weaving together the threads of music, news, and culture. Its journey reflects our ongoing quest for clarity, connectivity, and the enduring magic of sound waves echoing through the air.

If you think this history of FM radio is exciting, then get ready for even more excitement with The Incredible 5, now publishing on Kindle Vella!

PINK & SWEET: The Story of Cotton Candy

Cotton candy, that fluffy cloud of sugary goodness that melts in your mouth, has been delighting people for generations. But have you ever wondered how this delectable treat came to be? The story of cotton candy is a fascinating journey that spans centuries and continents, weaving together ingenuity, innovation, and of course, a love for all things sweet. Believe it or not, the concept of cotton candy can be traced back to ancient civilizations. Persian nobility in the 15th century enjoyed a treat called "fairy floss," which was made by hand-spinning sugar and placing it on a stick. This early version was a delicacy reserved for the elite, showcasing sugar's luxurious status in those times. The real breakthrough for cotton candy came during the 18th and 19th centuries, particularly with the advent of the Industrial Revolution. In the late 18th century, European confectioners began experimenting with sugar in new ways, thanks to advancements in sugar refinement and processing techniques.

It was in the late 19th century that two inventors, John C. Wharton and William Morrison, made a significant leap in cotton candy's evolution. In 1897, they patented the first electric cotton candy machine, which mechanized the process of spinning sugar into fine strands. This invention revolutionized the production of cotton candy, making it easier and faster to create, and ultimately more accessible to the masses. The turning point for cotton candy's popularity came at the 1904 World's Fair in St. Louis, Missouri, USA. This grand event showcased innovations from around the world, and among them was cotton candy. The treat was a sensation, captivating fairgoers with its novelty, whimsical appearance, and irresistible sweetness. At the fair, cotton candy was initially called "Fairy Floss," a nod to its ancient origins. However, it was also referred to as "Cotton Candy," a name that stuck and eventually became the widely recognized term for this confection.

As the 20th century progressed, cotton candy continued to evolve. Manufacturers refined the production process, creating machines capable of spinning sugar into even finer threads, resulting in the characteristic light and airy texture we associate with cotton candy today. Cotton candy's popularity soared, becoming a staple at fairs, carnivals, and amusement parks worldwide. Its vibrant colors, sweet flavors, and nostalgic appeal made it a favorite among children and adults alike. In the modern era, cotton candy has remained a beloved treat, transcending generations and cultures. It has also inspired variations and creative interpretations, such as gourmet flavors, artisanal spins on the classic recipe, and even cotton candy-infused cocktails and desserts.

The accessibility of cotton candy machines for home use has further fueled its popularity, allowing people to enjoy this delightful treat in the comfort of their own homes. Additionally, advancements in food technology have led to innovations like organic and natural versions of cotton candy, catering to health-conscious consumers. The history of cotton candy is a testament to human ingenuity and our enduring love for sweet indulgences. From its humble origins in ancient civilizations to its modern-day ubiquity, cotton candy continues to bring joy and sweetness to people of all ages. So, the next time you savor a fluffy cone of cotton candy, take a moment to appreciate the rich history and sweet legacy behind this iconic treat.

THE SPRING FLOWER by Jenn Webster

The season of spring is a time for renewal and to enjoy the very good weather, but for most people, it is a time to fall in love; and that kind of thing had happened to a guy named Richard. Richard's wife had passed away seven years ago, and although he has since moved on, from time to time Richard would grieve the loss of his wife and the wonderful love that the two have had.
Richard would then recall the times when he and his wife first met: At middle school when they were little kids, but at the time they were just good friends. By the time they became teenagers, Richard and the love of his life were seeing a little bit more of each other. Even one springtime when she and Richard both reached for and touched the spring flower that either both were going to pick and either would give that flower to either of them.
Instead, Richard and his love would share the flower with each other, and would both admire it together.

As time went on, Richard and his love would go to separate colleges, but they both promised to write to one another; and then, after graduation, the couple saw each other again, and their love would only grow.
A few days later, Richard and the love of his life celebrated the anniversary of their relationship; while sitting together at a restaurant, Richard said to his love, “I am so very happy and grateful to have you in my life…you are the one true woman I could ever care for in such a great while. And now, my love, I would very much like for you to spend the rest of your life with me.”
Then Richard got down on his knees and proposed to the love of his life; a year later, they finally got married, with just his family and closest friends in attendance. As the newlywed couple took their picture, although no one noticed, Richard and his wife were both holding the bridal bouquet together.

And now, time has passed, and Richard's wife has since passed away all of those years ago; Now Richard knows that he must move on, but he then knows that someday he will find a brand-new love, one who could always hold the spring flower together with him.

A TRADITION OF ELEGANCE AND EXCITEMENT: The History of The Kentucky Derby

The Kentucky Derby stands as a testament to the rich tapestry of American culture, blending elegance, excitement, and a touch of Southern charm. This iconic event has captured the hearts of millions, transcending mere horse racing to become a symbol of tradition and excellence. Let's delve into the fascinating history of the Kentucky Derby and uncover the allure that has made it a celebrated spectacle for over a century.
The roots of the Kentucky Derby trace back to the late 19th century when Col. Meriwether Lewis Clark Jr., the grandson of the famous explorer William Clark of Lewis and Clark expedition fame, envisioned a racing event that would emulate the prestigious races of Europe. Inspired by events like the Epsom Derby in England and the Grand Prix de Paris in France, Col. Clark sought to establish a similar tradition in America.
On May 17, 1875, the first Kentucky Derby took place at the newly constructed Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. A crowd of approximately 10,000 spectators gathered to witness the spectacle, which featured fifteen three-year-old thoroughbreds racing for a purse of $2,850. The inaugural race was won by Aristides, ridden by Oliver Lewis and trained by Ansel Williamson, setting the stage for decades of thrilling competition.

Over the years, the Kentucky Derby evolved from a local racing event into a national phenomenon. The addition of traditions like the Garland of Roses for the winning horse, the playing of "My Old Kentucky Home," and the iconic fashion of Derby Day attendees added layers of charm and allure to the festivities. As the race gained prominence, so did its impact on American culture, becoming a symbol of Southern hospitality and sporting excellence.
The Kentucky Derby has seen its fair share of unforgettable moments that have etched themselves into the annals of horse racing history. From Secretariat's breathtaking Triple Crown victory in 1973, where he set records that still stand today, to the "Greatest Two Minutes in Sports" providing dramatic finishes and unexpected upsets, each year brings new stories and legends to the Derby's legacy.
Beyond the racetrack, the Kentucky Derby has left an indelible mark on popular culture. It has inspired movies, books, fashion trends, and culinary delights, with Mint Juleps and extravagant hats becoming synonymous with Derby Day celebrations. The event's ability to capture the imagination and unite people from all walks of life underscores its enduring appeal.

Today, the Kentucky Derby continues to thrive as one of the most anticipated events in the sporting calendar. With a blend of tradition and modernity, the Derby maintains its allure, attracting a global audience and showcasing the finest in horse racing talent. As each Derby unfolds, it pays homage to its storied past while embracing the excitement of the present.
The Kentucky Derby is more than just a horse race; it's a celebration of history, culture, and the enduring spirit of competition. From its humble beginnings to its status as a cultural phenomenon, the Derby remains a symbol of elegance and excitement, captivating generations of enthusiasts and embodying the timeless traditions of American sportsmanship. As we look forward to each Derby Day, we honor a legacy built on excellence and the enduring quest for victory.

The Treasure Chest BY JENN WEBSTER

There were two young boys: One named Mike and the other named Dave; together, those two young boys had been best friends for all of their lives, and yes, each of the boys even had their own mothers!
So, when Mother's Day came around, they were trying to think up of something that would each make great gifts for their mothers; after all, it had been their mothers who have brought those young boys into this world and have taught each of them the ways of life.
One day, Mike and Dave found an old treasure map while they were walking in the park. Mike picked up the map and read it. The boys looked all around the treasure map, and then they spotted something at the end of it—an "X" marked on the spot!

Mike said to Dave after looking at the treasure map, "Wow, this 'X' on the spot is pretty neat!" "Do you think that we would find the treasure in it?" Dave asked Mike, "If so, then maybe we would find a treasure chest filled with all kinds of gems in it, and then we could give those gems to our mothers as Mother's Day gifts!" Mike then replied to Dave, "Well, as the saying goes, anything is possible! Hey, let's get some sleep tonight so we can be bright and early to find that treasure!" Dave nodded, and then each of the boys went to their separate homes.
The very next day, Mike and Dave were up early to find the treasure; they each got their backpacks and shovels, and then they went on their journey, following the map as they went to seek the treasure.
Dave and Mike walked throughout the park, following the trail just as the map had ordered them. They kept on walking and walking, and soon, the young boys got closer and closer to the treasure. Finally, after all of that walking, they had found it!

Mike dug up that "X" on the spot in the hopes of finding the treasure chest or something similar to that; but then, all Dave and Mike found was...NOTHING! Mike and Dave had searched all throughout the park for the treasure, only to learn that there was no treasure inside the hole! The two young boys then scratched their heads and wondered how this had happened.
Just then, Mike and Dave's mothers appeared. They each walked up to their sons and hugged them. Finally, both of their mothers told their sons that their love for their mothers was the very best treasure that they could ever bestow. Now, isn't that a lovely thought?

Rejected TV Commercial Jingle Slogans...

Throughout the years, TV commercials have blessed us with so many jingles, with so many memorable slogans as "O-S-C-A-R" and "Like a Good Neighbor"; but somehow, somewhere, there happens to be TV commercial jingles that have been rejected, and somehow ended up lost in time. The following gallery just shows why one would never see those slogans anytime soon...

AND NOW, A VERY SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM JENN W...

This coming June will mark 5 years since I have left WordPress to focus on being an author; it seems that a lot of time has passed since I had left the blogging world of WordPress. However, almost seven months after leaving WordPress in June of 2019, I began feeling that I had started to miss blogging just a little, so I had thought that I would just do a temporary blog so that I could entertain my readers. So with that, in January of 2020, I launched a new blog powered by Blogger, “Miss Jenn Webster”, and in that first month alone it had done moderately well.
However, I realized that I had launched my blog two months before America, as well as the entire world, would be caught up in a global pandemic of epic proportions; a pandemic was declared on March 11th, 2020. And in that time, every single event was canceled, fast food restaurants were resorted to drive-thru and/or takeout, and even department stores as well as every single store in the country was closed, only to open up for curbside pickup offers. Yes, our nation and the world was in a standstill…
Yet, my Blogger blog stood out in spite of it all, churning out each and every blog post and writing news, from Super Story Specials to news about my Kindle Vella series to so very much more.

But now, it has come to a point that it has become difficult to post a different blog post each day when you are trying to publish other things, like a Kindle Vella series, a Kindle book, or even a Tumblr post. Not only that, it can also be difficult to try and focus on what kind of blog post that you are publishing when you have struggles in your own family to deal with.
And finally, it has become time-consuming to write and publish a blog post; combine this with all of these other factors, and then, it has gotten to the point where you do not have anything fun to come up with a good blog post anymore.
And so, with all of that, I would very much like to announce that I have made the decision to shut down my blog, “Miss Jenn Webster”, in June, and to give up blogging altogether, and this time, it shall be for good; I know very much that some of you are not going to take this news very well, but this was something that I had been putting some thought at for a while.

I would very much like to put my concentration now on creating possible Kindle books, Kindle Vella series, and other things that I have wanted to do in a long time, among those is to return to my very first love, cartooning. Believe me, I have enjoyed blogging with all of my heart, but what I would very much like to do now is to focus on other things that are related to my art and writing.
I shall announce the June date for my farewell soon; in the meantime, I hope that you stay tuned for some very special things coming your way on this here blog!

The Mermaid and Her Mother BY JENN WEBSTER

It was a beautiful summer day; a beautiful young mermaid who goes by the name of Alanna swam up to the surface and sunned herself on the island sand. As Alanna was relaxing on the sand, she began to think about a lot of things that had gone on in her life; among them was spending time with her mother. Of course, Alanna had loved her mother from the time when she was a little mermaid girl until her adulthood. As Alanna grew older, she began to think about her mother and then knew that her mother was now growing older.
And so it was that Alanna began to think about this and wondered if she could have one more moment with her own mother before she faded away into sea foam. and so Alanna decided to go back into the ocean and pay a visit to her mother. Alanna thought, If only I could invite her to relax on the island beach with me, then she would be very happy, and I myself would be very happy, too.
Alanna paid a visit to her own mother, who lives in an undersea grotto; Alanna's mother was finishing making a scarf as a gift for someone who would use it so very much more than she does. Alanna asked her mother if she could come with her to the surface and relax on the island beach for a while.

At first, Alanna's mother was a bit terrified, but Alanna then said to her that the island's beach was so very warm and beautiful and that the island above the surface was as beautiful as any mermaid could enjoy its beauty. So, Alanna's mother agreed to go with her daughter to the surface to relax with her for a while; they went up to the surface, and Alanna's mother found that the island and its beach were indeed so very beautiful, unlike any other island that she had seen before.
Alanna and her mother both relaxed on the sand for a while; as they were doing so, they looked at the clouds that sailed above the sky. Some clouds were shaped like sailboats while others were shaped like, well, fish! And of course, there were clouds that were shaped just the way they are, like clouds. Alanna and her mother had the most quiet, but wonderful time, relaxing on the island's beach and enjoying the company that they had for each other.
When it was time to go home, Alanna and her mother returned home to the ocean; and then, as a token of the love that her mother had for her, Alanna's mother gave her daughter the scarf that she was making for a very special person...Alanna! Alanna hugged her mother while her mother herself thanked her daughter for that special time that they had together, and then Alanna swam back to her own home, cherishing the memory that she and her mother now have together.
